At First UMC we take feeding the hungry seriously. Please take a moment to check out the ways in which we do this important ministry. If you would like to help as a volunteer in one of these ministries please contact the church office at 830-379-4112.
Thanksgiving Dinners:
Prior to Thanksgiving each year, FUMC partners with Arlan’s Market to provide meals for about 150 local families in need.   FUMC has a donation drive in early November to cover the basic cost of the meals.  Then a group of volunteers goes to Arlan’s and prepares the bag of groceries.  FUMC also prints and distributes the meal vouchers to local families as needed.  The families can then go to Arlan’s Market on the specified days and redeem their voucher for the items to make a full traditional Thanksgiving meal for their family.  Any unclaimed meals are picked up by FUMC volunteers and either distributed by the Church to families in need or donated to the Christian Cupboard.

On-Going Community Food Assistance:

There are many occasions where individual or families will come to the Church office seeking food assistance.  In addition to providing guidance on how to receive on-going food assistance, FUMC has a limited capability to provide short-term assistance by providing HEB gift cards as needed.

The Christian Cupboard:  Located at 516 N. Camp Street, Seguin, Texas – The Christian Cupboard provides groceries for those in need. FUMC supports the Cupboard with donations of food and money. Food Donations can be taken directly to the Christian Cupboard or can be dropped off at the Church Office.  As well, volunteers are always needed at the Cupboard to stock shelves and fill bags.

Bags of Grace is a ministry for the homeless and for transients. A gallon zip lock bag contains a bottle of water, a can of Vienna sausage, beef sticks, wet wipes, canned fruit, chewing gum, tissues, and other ready to eat food items.
Keep a bag or two in your car to distribute to those in need.
