Communion and Baptism
Though we are resuming public worship on Sunday, September 20th, we realize that some of our members may not be ready to return to a group gathering. In light of that, we are going to continue to offer “Sacraments by Appointment” for individuals and families who wish to receive communion or be baptized in a more private setting. However, we will be resuming communion and baptisms in our normal worship services as well.
COMMUNION:  We are offering “communion by appointment” in Knolle Chapel. If you and your immediate family would like to make an appointment to come and receive communion, simply call the church office and make an appointment that works best for your schedule. Appointment times may be made Monday through Friday. You will enter through the side door of Knolle Chapel at the appointed time and pick up an individual communion cup from a basket. One of our pastors will be present and you will be able to share prayer concerns and then the service of communion will be observed.
BAPTISM: If you wish to be baptized or have someone in your family baptized, you may call to make an appointment for the baptism through the church office. Choose the Sunday you prefer and please limit your group to immediate family ONLY. A pastor will contact you to discuss pertinent details related to your scheduled baptism. The baptismal congregational response will be provided for our radio and Facebook listeners, so that they may participate in the baptism digitally.
Our prayer here at FUMC Seguin is that you will know and experience the love and care of Christ in the deepest ways possible, despite the times that we are in. Please do not hesitate to call us at the church office – (830) 379-4112 to schedule your sacramental appointments, or you may contact one of us directly, by email

Blessings, Pastor Cathe

Resumption of Public Worship

I’m excited to announce that we are planning to resume our normal public worship schedule on Sunday, September 20th (God willing and the COVID Numbers don’t rise….!). We will have our 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Traditional services in the Sanctuary and our 10:30 Seasons Praise service in the CLC building (which has new carpet, by the way!).

We will continue to keep a close watch on our local and state guidelines in relation to COVID updates and we will adhere to whatever guidelines are in place at that time. We are presuming that social distancing and mask directives will still be in place. We will be printing the song lyrics in the worship bulletins instead of using hymnals and Seasons will have the song lyrics on the screen, as usual.

We will not have coffee or any kind of refreshments available but you are welcome to bring your own. Also, there will be no Children’s church or nursery available – be prepared to keep your children in worship with you. Our worship bulletins and offering plates will be on tables at all worship entrances and the ushers will direct you to those tables as you enter.

As we adjust to being back together in public worship, we ask for your patience and grace. Please make every effort to maintain social distancing at all times. Help us create a safe and sacred worship space for all and pray that God will continue to protect and guide us as we move forward together in ministry and worship together here at FUMC Seguin. Blessings, Pastor Cathe

Hello all,
As you probably know, COVID cases are rapidly rising in our state and in our area. We have staff members who have relatives affected by the virus. Governor Abbott and our local officials have increased public restrictions, in response to the current rise in cases.
In light of all this, I feel that the safest thing we can do as a church is to revert back to the restrictions we had in place a month ago:
1) Effective immediately, our church offices will be closed and staff members and pastors will work from home.
2) We will discontinue public gathering for worship until further notice (until there is noticeable improvement in the COVID statistics and our community guidelines suggest that restrictions can be relaxed).
3) We will continue to broadcast our 8 a.m. service on KWED, and our Seasons service on Facebook and YouTube.
4) The church campus will be closed. Sunday School classes and small groups are encouraged to meet via Zoom.

I regret any inconveniences that this may create, but I have discussed this decision with our SPRC chair and other worship leaders and staff, and I feel that this is the correct decision for us at this time, given the circumstances. Please be in prayer for our church and congregation and leaders, as we continue to seek God’s wisdom and discernment in all of the decisions we make in response to COVID-19. I appreciate your continued love, support, and faithfulness!
Yours in Christ, Cathe

May 6, 2020
Greetings in the name of Christ our Risen Lord,

I had hoped that we would be back together for public worship by now, but that is not the case. However, I have good news! We are tentatively planning for May 31st to be our first Sunday back together with our normal worship schedule. I’ve met with our staff and we are planning to do all that we can to insure your safety and well-being as we prepare to gather as a congregation publicly. Here are some of the measures we plan to institute:

*Our FUMC safety team will establish maximum attendance numbers for each service to correspond with the recommended social distancing guidelines. They will also assist us in directing people leaving and entering worship services so that distancing is maintained.

* Our offering plates at the services will be on tables so that we don’t have to “pass the plate”, but rather, each person can simply leave their offering in the plate. Many of our members give on-line and by bank draft and we recommend that form of giving. Please contact Bonnie Dixon, our Financial Administrator, if you wish to give digitally (finance@fumcseguin.com).

* We will be offering communion by use of individual, self-contained communion containers. Each container has a wafer and grape juice. These will be in a large basket on communion Sundays and you can pick up your container as you come in. Then we will go through the communion liturgy as normal but instead of coming forward to be served, each of you will open your individual container and we will each partake of our individual servings of wafer and juice simultaneously in our seats.

* Due to social distancing mandates, our Sunday School classes will not be able to meet in their designated rooms until further notice. We recommend that your class consider the use of Zoom for on-line meetings.

* Until further notice, we will not be offering coffee or any kind of refreshments on Sunday mornings. Also, our drinking fountains will not be in use. Please feel free to bring your own coffee or water.

* Though we are going to sanitize our worship spaces and public areas as best as we can, we strongly urge you to be responsible for your own protection and that of others as a precautionary measure. We recommend that you consider masks, gloves, carrying          sanitizer wipes, etc.

I understand that in a congregation our size, there are many different comfort levels in response to the Covid -19 outbreak and how it relates to our worship life together. I’m excited and eager to begin worshiping publicly again, but want to insure that we are moving ahead in the best way possible to insure optimum health and safety for all of us here at FUMC Seguin. Please know that I will continue to keep abreast of any new developments in our local, state, and national guidelines that may affect our church life together. Also, as I continue to receive updates from our District and Conference UMC offices, I will share those updates as well. Please continue to be in prayer for the healing of our world, wisdom of our leaders, and guidance for all of us, from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessings and love in Christ,

Pastor Cathe

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In light of the heightened anxiety regarding the corona virus and in response to recommendations from local and national officials, we have decided that we as a church will continue to take certain precautionary measures to insure that we are all doing our part to keep from spreading this virus. Having said that, I also want to assure you that we plan to conduct our FUMC ministries with minimal interruption and with the excellence that we always strive for. I am thankful that we are digitally set up to allow that to happen. Here are the steps that we are taking thus far, and please remember that as circumstances may change, these decisions may change also.

1) Physical gathering for worship services on March 22 are cancelled. Pastor Cathe will broadcast her sermon on KWED 1580 AM and Pastor Ray’s Seasons sermon will be posted on our Facebook page.

2) Church office hours will be 9:00 a.m. till Noon each day this week. If you need to speak to a pastor or staff member, please leave a message on their office phone. We will be checking our messages regularly. If this changes for any reason, another email will be sent out and revised hours will be posted on the office door.

3) All gatherings, including worship and meetings are cancelled through March 28. If you are a Small Group leader or Sunday School Teacher, please let the people in your group know about these cancellations, as not all people check email or other forms of social media.

4) The Weekday School will be closed through April 3. The Weekday school follows the lead of Seguin ISD in determining unscheduled school closures.

5)Please be in prayer as we seek to navigate these uncharted waters in a faithful and wise way. I am prayerfully optimistic that strides will be made quickly to slow down and eradicate this virus. I am also prayerfully hopeful that we can resume our normal worship gatherings and schedule of events as soon as possible. Regular updates will be posted on our Facebook page, church website, and by means of email. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the church office. May the peace of Christ be with you all and the love of God be full in your hearts during this holy season of Lent.

6) Other Cancellations of Note:
Tri-Methodist Lenten Worship has been cancelled
Women’s Retreat for April 3-4 will be rescheduled for the fall
Confirmation Rally has been cancelled
