Baptist Children’s and Family Services Shelter
FUMC and First Baptist Church (FBC) have partnered with Baptist Children’s and Family Services (BCFS) to open as a Medical Needs Shelter if needed. BCFS is contracted with the State of Texas to provide medical sheltering under state ordered evacuation during a disaster or public health emergency. When necessary BCFS will activate FUMC as a Medical Needs Shelter. BCFS provides everything to include all supplies, medical staff, security and food. We are responsible for providing space and volunteers, which we do in partnership with FBC. 2008 was the only time we have been activated, however we reorganize every year to update the available volunteer base. Should we be activated, our time of operation would not be expected to be longer than 7 days from opening to closing.
Every year in the spring, before or at the beginning of the hurricane season we have an orientation meeting to discuss our purpose, update policy changes and update the contact and availability information of volunteers. We complete 3 forms for BCFS to be submitted at time of activation, to include a Volunteer Application, BCFS Consent for Criminal Background History & Or Driving Record Check and Confidentiality Statement & Reporting Suspected Abuse, Neglect or Exploitation. We also complete a FUMC Volunteer Information Sheet for use in scheduling volunteers while the Shelter is in operation.
These forms can be obtained at FUMC, FBC or downloaded below from this website, completed and returned to FUMC.
