At First UMC we take feeding the hungry seriously. Please take a moment to check out the ways in which we do this important ministry. If you would like to help as a volunteer in one of these ministries please contact the church office at 830-379-4112.
The San Antonio Food Bank currently partners with dozens of schools to provide food for children at-risk of going hungry over a weekend or holiday. San Antonio Food Bank BackPack schools distribute food packs to children who are identified by caring teachers and staff members as showing signs that he or she is living in a high-risk situation. These students are referred to school counselors, who then see to it that the child is discreetly given a food pack to take home. In addition to providing food packs for the needy child and his or her siblings, school counselors are able to refer these families to the San Antonio Food Bank for additional assistance with Food Stamp Outreach, senior citizen nutrition programs, and food pantry referrals.

First UMC is currently assisting Ball Early Childhood Center here in Seguin by subsidizing this program.
Located at 516 N. Camp Street here in Seguin, The Christian Cupboard provides groceries for those in need. FUMC supports the Cupboard with donations of food and money. Volunteers are always needed at the Cupboard to stock shelves and fill bags. The children of our Weekday School collected almost 200 pounds of food for the Cupboard this past year.

Bags of Grace is a ministry for the homeless and for transients. A gallon zip lock bag contains a bottle of water, a can of Vienna sausage, beef sticks, wet wipes, canned fruit, chewing gum, tissues, and other ready to eat food items.
Keep a bag or two in your car to distribute to those in need.
Several times throughout the year we are delighted to sponsor the mobile food pantry of the San Antonio Food Bank. Close to 200 families are provided a week’s worth of groceries at no cost. Volunteers to help unload the truck and assist in other ways are always welcome. Contact the church office at 830-379-4112 to sign up. Set up is in the Austin Street parking lot.
