Many volunteers are needed to help create a welcoming atmosphere for those who worship with us on Sunday morning. That’s why the volunteers are so very important to each service that we offer. Whether it’s the ushers, acolytes, communion servers or communion prep team, they are all an integral part of Sunday morning worship services. If you are interested in getting involved at First UMC of Seguin, but don’t know where to begin, volunteering in the worship service is a great way to start.
Ushers: They are the first line of hospitality when you enter the narthex and sanctuary. They let you know with their friendly “hello” that you matter to us. Ushers serve on a monthly rotation basis, volunteering three months out of the year. If you love to greet fellow worshipers and desire to interact with them, being an usher is a great way to get involved. Training is provided.
Acolytes: The acolytes assist the clergy in several aspects of Traditional Worship. They carry in the light of Christ and the Bible at the opening of services. They also assist with offering, baptisms and communion throughout the services. Acolytes at First UMC of Seguin range in age from 4th grade and up, and volunteer once a month and during special services, such as Christmas and Holy Week. Training is provided.
Communion Servers: On Communion Sundays, those who serve the elements do so with a heart for Jesus and a desire to share the importance of the Great Thanksgiving. We serve communion during worship the first Sunday of each month and also during special services, such as Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday. The communion servers are contacted each month as needed. Training is provided.
Communion Prep: Those who serve behind the scenes do so with a desire to truly be the hands of Jesus. They do it knowing the worshipers in the pews will never know who prepared the bread and juice for communion. Training is provided.
