CHRISTIANS - by Maya Angelou

When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'. I'm whispering "I was lost, now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say..."I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need Chrsit to be my guide.

When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong. I'm profess'n that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect, my flaws are far too visible but God believes I am worth it.

When I say..."I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain. I have my share of heartaches so I call upon His name.

When I say..."I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou, I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow!

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela

A CHILD EXPLAINS GOD

"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth.

He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your Mom and Dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.

Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing miracles and people finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they crucified Him. But He was good and kind, like His Father, and He told His Father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said ‘O.K.’

His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done and all His hard work on earth so He told Him He didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So He did. And now He helps His Dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones He can take care of Himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important. You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.

You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach.

If you don't believe in God you will be very lonely because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.

But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.

And that's why I believe in God."

SUNDAY SCHOOL SCHEDULE

Bring the kids to Sunday School! We offer classes for all ages (starting at 2 years) and grades. Please know that your child will be loved and cared for by their teachers. Join us on Sunday and see what a difference just one hour of Christian fellowship can mean to your child!

Nursery – Room 105

Infants and Toddlers are lovingly cared for by our Nursery Staff. There is always a First Aid/CPR trained worker in the Nursery. Parents are given a pager so that they can be reached, should their child need them. Please see Nursery Director Penny Barton with any concerns or questions. We offer Nursery/child care for children up to age 4 years during worship and up to age 2 during Sunday School. Our children's Sunday school classes start at age 2!

Baby Bibles - One of the truly special moments in our church is when a baby is born. We present to each new infant their very own Bible to help remind them of the imporance of Christ's love as well as the love of their church family. We do ask that Mom and Dad let us know when their little one arrives!

Children's Church - Available to children age 5 through 2nd grade at our 10:30 services every Sunday except Communion Sunday, this is another opportunity for children to learn more about the love of Jesus. Shortly after worship begins, the children are led to room 102 by a Nursery Worker to hear Bible stories, watch children's Christian videos, color pictures, periodically act out the stories, and hear just how much Jesus loves them.

PRE-SCHOOL AGE LEVEL

Ages 2 & 3 - Room 104 - Children learn Bible lessons through the Cokesbury curriculum "Rock Solid". With a variety of hands-on experiences young children learn and experience the Bible in ways they can better understand. We alternate teachers in this class to allow the adults to attend their own classes.

Ages 4 & 5 - Room 102 - Children are told God's Story through the Cokesbury curriculum "Rock Solid". This class helps preschoolers begin to build a lifelong faith.

Music Celebration for Pre-School children takes place from 9:55-10:10 a.m. in room 104. Children and teachers enjoy these 15 minutes together, learning songs that help them understand and remember the love of Christ through music. Music Drector, Keith Robinson leads this very impressive group of singers – although from time to time, the children themselves lead one another.

ELEMENTARY LEVEL

First Grade - Room 300 - First graders enjoy the Cokesbury curriculum "Rock Solid" which includes Bible stories, activities and Fun Paks that are biblically grounded and educationally sound.

Second Grade - Room 302 - Second graders are taught how to build a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, a relationship with their leaders and other children.

Third Grade - Room 304 - Third graders received their own Bible in August on Promotion Sunday. Because children learn in a variety of ways, this clas engages them with multisensory activities, stories and games.

Fourth & Fifth Grades - Room 207 - Fourth & fifth graders meet together for the very successful program "Godly Play combined with other curriculum that helps them develop relationships with each other, apply Bible lessons to their lives, and most importantly, help them get to know God.

Sixth Grade - Our Sixth Graders meet with our Jr. & Sr. High boys and girls up until Confirmation. This combining of ages/grades allows the sixth graders to become better connected to the Youth Program we offer. The first Sunday of February the sixth graders split off into their own class - Confirmation, which runs February-April each year. Confirmation is open to all youth in grade six and above who have not yet joined the church.

Music Assembly - First–Fifth Graders start each Sunday school hour from 9:15-9:30 a.m. in the Music Room (#9). Music Director Keith Robinson is their loving leader and is himself a joy to be around.
