CHILDREN’S BIBLE PRESENTATIONS – Our newborns receive a Bible upon their arrival home (and sometimes while they are still in the hospital - Mom & Dad need to let us know when they arrive); our Third Graders the Sunday before Seguin ISD starts school in the fall; and our Confirmands during Confirmation. Should your child join us mid-year, please let Ed. Dir. Candace Wilson know. We can never find enough opportunities to share God’s word with our youngest disciples!
CHILDREN’S ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE – Each year on Ash Wednesday, children are invited to their very own Children’s Ash Wednesday Service in Hierholzer Hall (entrance by back parking lot). At 6:00 p.m. this special service is presented by both adults and children, reminding us all of just how much God loves us. In 2009 the story of Lent will be told by puppets! Music Director Keith Robinson leads the music during this service and our Kid's Kouncil presents the play. We hope to see you there.
JOURNEY TO JERUSALEM – During Sunday School on Palm Sunday we invite children’s Sunday School classes to join us on a special journey...a journey around the church grounds where they will find adults and youth acting out the stories of the life of Jesus Christ. It’s a time we look very forward to!
CONFIRMATION & 6th GRADERS – will start Sunday, February 7 2010- During the Confirmation process, special classes are held during the Sunday school hour (9:15-10:15 a.m.) as well as fun outside activities such as working on local mission projects, visiting Cokesbury (U.M. bookstore in San Antonio), attending a Retreat and Rally – and choosing an adult “Friend-in-the-Faith”, a mentor, to work with while making the decision to become a full member of First United Methodist Church, Seguin. The decision to join the church is left entirely up to the Confirmand – and their decision is respected by all involved. Questions? Please contact Ed. Dir. Candace Wilson.
CHILDREN’S CHURCH – Children age 5 years through 2nd grade attending the 10:30 a.m. worship services are invited to join together in room 102 for stories and fun in Children’s Church. This ministry starts shortly after worship begins. The reviews are in from past years and this ministry is a hit with both children and parents. We do not offer Children’s Church on Communion Sundays so children can join their families for Communion.
ACOLYTES – Children in 5th and 6th grades are invited to join our Acolyte Program. This ministry is very important to our church and each boy and girl participating adds to the worshipful nature of our 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. Traditional worship services. If you would like to participate, please contact Ed. Dir. Candace.
EVENING VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - Our 2009 VBS theme was Cokesbury's Beach Party - "The Edge". Dinner was offered each evening at 5:00 p.m. with VBS starting at 6:00 p.m. An “Adult VBS” was also offered to those wishing to take part in a study. Children attending involved those going into Kindergarten through upcoming 6th graders. Childcare/Nursery was available for adults helping with VBS or attending the adult class. Each year a wonderful time is had by all!
CHURCHWIDE PICNIC - Our Annual Churchwide Picnic will be October 25, 2009 and will be held at Nolte Island's Site 3. As in previous years, our United Methodist Men will prepare ribs, sausage, chicken and hot dogs. All attending are asked to bring covered dishes to share as well as desserts. In 2007 we started a new event - a MEN'S PIE MAKING CONTEST! After the Best Tasting, Prettiest and Most Unusual certificates are handed out, everyone is invited to taste for themselves. Needless to say, not much is ever left! Children have fun playing in the sand, playing volleyball, enjoying the playscape...and of course there is the always popular MOON BOUNCE including a small bouncer for our really little ones! Everyone in worship that day is invited to dress in "picnic clothes" for worship. It is always a great event!
TRUNK OR TREAT - On October 31st each year, we clear the College/Austin St. Parking Lot and invite members to bring their cars and trucks, open trunks and drop tail gates, and decorate their vehicle as they would their front porch for Halloween. From 6:00-8:00 p.m., we open the lot up to the children of our community to "Trunk-or-Treat" (get it?!) and have a safe and fun-filled Trunk-or-Treat. We also have a State Trooper with us to ensure safety as well as hand out candy from his car. Join us for this great night!
